US officials have taken a San Gabriel Valley man into custody who is accused of smuggling over $300 million worth of computer servers to China, the Department of Justice announced.
The Justice Department released the identity of the man arrested, as a 38-year-old Greg Lui, alias “Yiu Kong Lui,” a California native.
Lui allegedly used to smuggle the export-controlled computer servers to China, using fake documents and shipments through third countries, the DOJ said in a statement issued on Thursday, October 1, 2026.
The servers contained “US-manufactured graphics processing units (GPUs) commonly used for Super Intelligence (SI)” it added.
For context, ‘Super Intelligence’ is a term coined by the Trump administration for artificial intelligence (AI).
“Protecting America’s national security means keeping our advanced super intelligence technology from being used to strengthen our adversaries’ military capabilities,” federal prosecutor Bill Essayli said.
According to the DOJ statement, Lui operated a technology company called Earthmade Computer, which he used to buy and send items to China without the licenses required by the U.S. Department of Commerce from 2023 to 2023.
The company allegedly shipped the items to countries where the license restrictions do not apply, which include Malaysia and Singapore, and then illegally re-exported them to China.
If Lui is convicted, he could face imprisonment upto 50 years.
