Who is Domingo? SNL’s viral sketch comes full circle with Sabrina Carpenter

The Grammy-winner has joined Marcello Hernández multiple times for the ‘Domingo’ bit

Domingo fever shows no signs of slowing down as Sabrina Carpenter brought the internet’s favorite chaotic love triangle back to life on Saturday Night Live.

The October 18 episode marked the Grammy-winner’s debut as SNL host, but fans were just as thrilled to see the comeback of “Domingo” — the viral sketch character, played by Marcello Hernández, whose over-the-top romances and telenovela-style twists have become an internet obsession.

In the new sketch, Matt (Andrew Dismukes) celebrates his 30th birthday when Kelsey (Chloe Fineman) surprises him with a musical performance by her friends, led by Carpenter’s character. The “Kel Squad” belts out parody songs inspired by Taylor Swift’s The Fate of Ophelia and Lady Gaga’s Abracadabra, turning the celebration into a full-blown confession of a wild Nashville girls’ trip.

Just as Matt is reeling from the revelations, Domingo storms in, declaring, “Kelsey, the night we spent together in Nashville was anything but ordinary,” before bursting into a parody of Alex Warren’s Ordinary.

The sketch marked Carpenter’s second appearance in the Domingo saga, first joining during SNL’s 50th Anniversary Special earlier this year. However, Carpenter’s connection to Domingo goes all the way back to the character’s debut.

Who is SNL’s Domingo?

The very first Domingo sketch premiered in October 2024, featuring Ariana Grande parodying none other than Carpenter’s Espresso.

Each sketch follows the same pattern; Kelsey and her friends (the “Kel Squad”) recap Kelsey’s encounter with Domingo in the form of a hilarious off-key rendition of a pop song.

The character quickly won fans’ hearts, and Carpenter’s recent appearance marked a full circle moment for her and Hernández. The comedian even attended a Short N’ Sweet tour concert, where the pop star “arrested” him after they had a surprise “Domingo” moment.

So far, there have been four sketches:

  1. Bridesmaid Speech — Oct.12, 2024 (feat. Ariana Grande)
  2. Babymoon — Nov. 16, 2024 (feat. Charli XCX)
  3. SNL 50: The Anniversary Special — Feb. 2025 (feat. Bad Bunny and Pedro Pascal as Domingo’s brother, and Sabrina Carpenter)
  4. 30th Birthday Party — Oct. 18, 2025 (feat. Sabrina Carpenter)
