Victoria Beckham has recently made shocking admission about being bullied as a child for her learning disorder, dyscalculia.
The fashion designer opened up on painful ordeal she endured in her younger years during her appearance on her Call Her Daddy podcast on October 22.
“I was quite shy. I was quite an awkward child. I also struggled academically enormously,” said the 51-year-old.
Victoria revealed she’s “a self-diagnosed dyslexic” as she suffered from “dyscalculia”.
“All those things that weren’t recognized when I was a kid. They just called me ‘thick,’” recalled the former Spice Girls.
According to Cleveland Clinic, dyscalculia is “a learning disorder that affects brain areas that handle math- and number-related skills and understanding”.
Therefore, Victoria became “thick skin” because of continuous bullying.
“When I went to college and I was told that I wasn’t good enough, that I didn’t look right. I was told I was too fat to even be on the stage. And that gave me a thick skin,” explained the fashion designer.
Victoria mentioned that she was bullied for more than just her academics, saying, “I didn’t fit in socially because when all the other kids after school were smoking and hanging out, I was going to dancing lessons or I was going to drama lessons. So, socially, I didn’t fit in”.
In addition to learning disorder, she had terrible skin as she pointed out, “I had awful acne. I had very limp hair. I was physically and mentally really bullied at school”.
Elsewhere in the interview, Victoria admitted that her entire school was “miserable” and how it impacted her mental health.
“I just internalised all of that and it just made me more and more shy,” continued David Beckham’s wife.
However, on the flip side, this experience helped her prepare for a career in public.
“I suppose, for what I was going to get next, which was very much a public bullying, really, from the media. So, I think it toughened me up and prepared me for what was coming next,” she concluded.
