Tulsidas Jayanti marks the birth anniversary of the great saint and poet Goswami Tulsidas. This year, the day is being celebrated on 31 July 2025. Tulsidas is remembered for his deep devotion to Lord Ram and his great works in Hindu literature.

His most famous book, Ramcharitmanas, is a retelling of Valmiki’s Ramayan in the Awadhi language, which made the story easier for common people to understand. Tulsidas also wrote the much-loved Hanuman Chalisa. His works continue to inspire people with their strong spiritual and moral values.

Did Tulsidas Really Meet Lord Ram?

One of the most talked-about stories is whether Tulsidas ever met Lord Ram. According to old texts like Bhaktirasbodhini by Priyadas, Tulsidas once helped a ghost by offering it water. In return, the ghost gave him advice on how to meet Hanuman, who would then guide him to Lord Ram.

Tulsidas followed the advice and later met Hanuman, who was disguised as a leper attending his bhajans. It is said that the place where Tulsidas met Hanuman is now known as the Sankatmochan Hanuman Temple in Varanasi.

Hanuman guided Tulsidas to Chitrakoot, a sacred place blessed by Lord Ram’s presence. There, Tulsidas saw two radiant, princely figures—but did not realize they were Lord Ram and Lakshmana.

With Hanuman’s divine insight, Tulsidas finally recognized Lord Ram. Overwhelmed with devotion, he fell at the Lord’s feet, experiencing a moment of pure spiritual bliss.

But the divine vision was brief — Lord Ram soon vanished, leaving Tulsidas deeply moved and heartbroken, yet forever transformed by the darshan.
