Hotels and resorts across India are increasingly investing in boutique sports facilities, particularly Pickleball and Padel courts, turning formerly passive leisure zones into dynamic recreational destinations.

While global hospitality brands have already adopted these facilities to enhance guest engagement, Indian properties—especially luxury and upper-midscale hotels—are now following suit with remarkable enthusiasm. As India’s wellness-conscious travellers evolve, so too are their expectations from holiday experiences.

According to industry estimates, India now boasts over 1,000 active Pickleball courts and more than 100 Padel courts, a number that continues to rise every quarter. This shift is not merely about adding amenities—it’s about creating lifestyle-focused experiences that blend health, social interaction, and Instagram-worthy appeal.

“The growing popularity of Pickleball and Padel among Indian consumers is driving a noticeable rise in interest across sectors,” says Nasir Ali, Founder & CEO, Gallant Sports & Infra. “We’re observing increasing demand for these sports, particularly within the hospitality ecosystem, where properties are exploring innovative ways to upgrade guest experiences.”

Ali notes that both luxury and mid-segment hotels are now rethinking how they design recreational areas. “Setting up these courts involves smart space planning, premium surfacing, and weather-resilient infrastructure,” he explains. “Pickleball courts typically require 2,000–2,500 sq. ft., while Padel courts need around 6,000 sq. ft. The investment ranges from ₹20–50 lakhs depending on customisation and design.”

While luxury hotels lean towards aesthetic sophistication—glass enclosures, ambient lighting, branded gear—mid-scale properties are opting for modular, convertible spaces with bold, sporty aesthetics. “These sports are more than just amenities,” says Ali. “They’re inclusive, social, and align perfectly with the trend of experience-driven travel. They offer guests fun, low-impact fitness options and boost engagement both on-ground and online.”

This growing alignment between fitness and travel is echoed by Harshal Dilwali, Director & CEO at Clarissa Resorts, who believes boutique sports facilities are shaping the next chapter of guest experiences. “Today’s travellers are increasingly seeking active, wellness-oriented experiences over traditional, passive leisure,” he says. “Racket sports like Pickleball and Tennis are inclusive and engaging across age groups. Hotels are recognising their value not just as recreational perks but as strategic investments that foster well-being, encourage longer stays, and create memorable, shareable moments.”

For Dilwali, these facilities represent more than functional upgrades—they are cultural statements. “As India witnesses a surge in these high-energy sports, properties that tap into this trend are better positioned to meet the demands of a new generation of guests,” he notes.

As global hospitality trends increasingly favour wellness, social engagement, and experience-led travel, Indian hotels are not just catching up—they’re actively leading the way.
