Taylor Swift sets new streaming records with ‘Life of a Showgirl’

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl breaks Spotify records

Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl has only been out for a day, but the pop superstar is already smashing records.

Spotify confirmed on Friday that the album became the platform’s most-streamed release in a single day this year, while its lead single, The Fate of Ophelia, set a new all-time record as the most-streamed song in one day on Spotify.

“On October 3rd, Taylor Swift’s The Life of a Showgirl became Spotify’s most-streamed album in a single day in 2025 so far,” the platform announced, adding that Ophelia “became the most-streamed song in a single day in Spotify history.”

The new era was first unveiled back in August, when Swift revealed her twelfth studio album and confirmed an accompanying film of the same name.

Deadline reported last month that Taylor Swift: The Official Release Party of a Showgirl pulled in $15 million in pre-sales on its first day, projecting an opening weekend between $29 million and $31 million across more than 3,700 theaters, for a limited theatrical release for October 3–5.

Swift’s streak of record-breaking moments continues to grow.

Her Eras Tour, which wrapped earlier this year, became the highest-grossing tour of all time with $2.2 billion in earnings, while its concert film dominated theaters and went on to become the most-watched music film ever on Disney+.

Alongside the chart success, fans are also dissecting lyrics from the new album.

One track in particular, CANCELLED!, has sparked speculation over whether the singer is addressing her rumored fallout with Blake Lively.

The lyrics suggest, however, that Swift is celebrating friends who have stood by her through difficult times rather than criticizing anyone.

“Good thing I like my friends cancelled / I like ’em cloaked in Gucci and in scandal,” she sings in the chorus.

In another verse, she adds, “They stood by me / Before my exoneration / They believed I was innocent / So I’m not here for judgement, no.”

With record-breaking streams, a blockbuster film release, and songs that already have fans debating their meaning, The Life of a Showgirl is shaping up to be another defining chapter in Swift’s career.
