Liver-related problems are rising rapidly these days. The liver is a vital organ that helps digest food and cleanse the blood. However, poor eating habits and an unhealthy lifestyle have led to an increase in liver diseases.

When the liver is unwell, the entire body weakens. Hepatitis is a condition where the liver becomes inflamed. Often, its symptoms go unnoticed at first, and by the time they appear, significant liver damage may have occurred. With timely knowledge, hepatitis can be prevented and treated. It is important to understand how hepatitis occurs, its symptoms, and how to avoid it.

Types Of Hepatitis

According to the Cleveland Clinic, hepatitis means inflammation of the liver, mostly caused by viral infections. It can lead to liver cancer, liver failure, and other serious liver diseases. There are two main types of hepatitis:

Acute hepatitis: Symptoms appear suddenly and usually resolve within six months. Common signs include fever, fatigue, and abdominal pain that last a few days or weeks.

Chronic hepatitis: This lasts more than six months and worsens gradually, potentially causing severe liver damage if untreated. It may lead to liver failure or cancer.

Early symptoms of hepatitis are often mild or slow to appear, making it hard to detect. Common symptoms include diarrhoea, fatigue, weakness, fever, nausea or loss of appetite, and pain in the upper right abdomen.

Long-term hepatitis can cause serious symptoms such as forgetfulness, excessive sleepiness, dark urine, pale stools, itchy skin, and yellowing of the skin or the whites of the eyes.

How To Prevent

To prevent hepatitis, always drink boiled or filtered water and avoid eating street food. Safe and effective vaccines are available. If you are in contact with someone infected, do not share personal items like toothbrushes or razors. Pregnant women should get tested for hepatitis B and seek treatment if infected. If diagnosed with hepatitis, follow medical advice, take prescribed medication, and maintain a healthy diet.
