Communications Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on Saturday said India has secured a place among the select group of nations capable of manufacturing telecom equipment, following the launch of BSNL’s indigenous 4G stack. With this milestone, the country has become the fifth nation worldwide to achieve such capability.

Scindia said the achievement signals a dramatic shift in India’s global standing. “Earlier, India was a service nation, but now we are a producer nation. Earlier, we were seen as a consumer nation, but today, we are an innovation, entrepreneurship and exports centre,” he remarked.

The nationwide launch of the BSNL Swadeshi 4G stack, unveiled by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Odisha, is expected to bridge connectivity gaps in remote areas. Scindia underlined that regions such as border villages, islands, hilly terrains and other places with poor internet penetration would now be able to access modern mobile networks.

He further added that, guided by the Prime Minister’s call to “innovate for India, innovate for humanity,” India has moved beyond its old image and joined countries such as Denmark, Sweden, China and South Korea in the coveted telecom equipment manufacturing club.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday launched fully indigenous 4G stack and more than 97,500 BSNL towers from Odisha’s Jharsuguda.

Responding to a post by Union Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia on X, PM Modi said: “Union Minister Scindia highlights how BSNL’s 4G stack embodies the swadeshi spirit.

“With over 92,000 sites connecting 22 million Indians, it reflects India’s journey from dependence to confidence, driving employment, exports, fiscal revival and advancing the vision of Aatmanirbhar Bharat,” the Prime Minister said.
