Don Zimmerman, renowned film editor, dies at 81

Don Zimmerman, a renowned film editor who worked on iconic movies such as the Rocky series, Night at the Museum, and Men in Black 3, has passed away at the age of 81.Â
The news of his death was announced on social media by Perception PR, with a heartfelt message: “Rest in Peace Don Zimmerman … He will be greatly missed.”
Zimmerman’s career in the film industry spanned over four decades, during which he worked on a wide range of projects.Â
Born and raised in Los Angeles, Zimmerman began his journey in the entertainment industry in the early 1970s, working in the editorial department for several films.Â
His early credits include The Landlord, Harold and Maude, The Last of Sheila, The Nickel Ride, Shampoo, and Bound for Glory.
Zimmerman’s collaboration with filmmaker Hal Ashby on the 1978 drama Coming Home earned him his first Oscar nomination for Best Film Editing. The film, starring Jane Fonda and Jon Voight, marked a significant milestone in Zimmerman’s career.Â
He later worked with Ashby again on the 1979 film Being There.
Throughout his career, Zimmerman worked on a diverse range of films, including A Change of Seasons, Barbarosa, Best Friends, Rocky III, Rocky IV, Cobra, The Prince of Tides, Leap of Faith, Ace Ventura: Pet Detective, The Nutty Professor, Liar Liar, Patch Adams, The Cat in the Hat, Flight of the Phoenix, Night at the Museum, Rush Hour 3, Jumper, Night at the Museum: Battle of the Smithsonian, Marmaduke, Men in Black 3, and RED 2.
In 2023, Zimmerman received the American Cinema Editors’ prestigious Career Achievement Award, a testament to his dedication and contributions to the film industry.Â
His passing has left a void in the industry, and he will be deeply missed by his colleagues and fans.
