Coldplay’s Chris Martin pokes fun at couple, then apologises

Coldplay’s Chris Martin recently found himself in an awkward situation.

During a concert in Foxborough, Mass., the singer poked fun at a couple who didn’t want to interact with the jumbotron.

The incident has sparked a mix of reactions from fans, with some sympathising with the couple and others appreciating Martin’s humour.

As seen in videos circulating on social media, the couple was caught off guard when they appeared on the jumbotron, leading them to quickly break away from their hug and duck out of sight.

Martin joked, “Either they’re having an affair or they’re just really shy,” before expressing remorse over unintentionally calling them out. “Oh s–t, I hope we didn’t do something bad.”

This incident wasn’t Martin’s first slip-up on his Music of the Spheres world tour. During the Toronto stop on July 8, he missed his cue and flubbed the lyrics to his 2014 smash hit A Sky Full of Stars.

“I f–ked up, I’m so sorry,” he told the audience, as seen in a TikTok video posted by a concertgoer.

The singer took responsibility for his mistake, acknowledging that it was an “actual f–k-up.” He jokingly added, “Don’t put that on YouTube, if you please.” The singer’s humility and willingness to poke fun at himself have endeared him to fans, who appreciate his authenticity.

Despite the gaffe, Martin continued the show, and his bandmates Jonny Buckland, Guy Berryman, and Will Champion supported him throughout.

“This is the benefit of being in a band with your brothers for 30 years,” Martin shared after a quick debrief with the rest of the band. “I forgot the words. I forgot what to say. It happens sometimes when you’re my age.”
