Cillian Murphy breathes sigh of relief over sitting out Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Cillian Murphy shares honest thoughts on Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’

Cillian Murphy is sharing his honest thoughts about starring in Christopher Nolan’s latest film, The Odyssey.

The Peaky Blinders actor, who has worked with the director on highly acclaimed projects including The Dark Knight, Inception , Dunkirk, and Oppenheimer, opened up about enjoying the film as a viewer for the first time in many years.

In an exclusive interview with Variety, Murphy responded to a question about his interest in being cast in the upcoming film, which is based on the ancient Greek epic poem attributed to Homer.

He told the outlet with a laugh, “I have ROMO: ‘Relief of missing out.’”

Murphy admitted, “No, I can’t wait to see it. If any director in the world could tackle The Odyssey, it’s going to be Christopher Nolan. I’m so excited to see it.

“He’s one in a million, he’s been a huge part of my life as an actor, and I just can’t wait to see what he does with it.”

However, some fans couldn’t help but wonder why the actor seemed to be skipping Nolan’s new film despite their long-standing chemistry.

It wasn’t until the versatile actor appeared as a guest on The Late Show that he cleared the air on the swirling rumours.

As much as the Oppenheimer star is excited to work with the director, he explained that it’s better to watch Nolan’s work without having to criticise himself on screen.

He said at the time,“I guess it’s the opposite of FOMO, but what I should clarify is that it’s a real gift to go and see Chris’ movies and watch them without having the terrible burden of looking at my own stupid head.”

For the unversed, the film is slated for release on July 17, 2026, with a star-studded cast including Matt Damon, Tom Holland, Zendaya, Anne Hathaway, and Jon Bernthal.
