Chappell Roan finally announces new song ‘The Subway’ release date

Chappell Roan unveils breathtaking imagery for her upcoming new song

Chappell Roan is finally unleashing her unreleased track, The Subway.

On July 28, the Grammy-winning singer took to Instagram to reveal that the song will officially drop on July 31 at 8 p.m. EST.

“The Subway out July 31 8pm EST,” Roan, 27, captioned a striking photo of herself buried beneath a sea of red hair, which appears to be the single’s cover art.

The long-awaited announcement comes more than a year after Roan first performed the emotional ballad during her 2024 Gov Ball set. Since then, she’s kept the song alive on tour, turning it into a live staple without ever confirming when fans could hear the studio version — until now.

Earlier this month, eagle-eyed fans spotted Roan filming what looked like a music video for The Subway, dragging her signature Rapunzel-length hair behind a taxi and belting lyrics from a fire escape. That visual style now makes sense, given the single’s official imagery.

The Subway follows the success of her chart-climber The Giver, which peaked at No. 5 on the Billboard Hot 100, and the viral hit Good Luck, Babe!

As for a new album, fans may need to be patient. Roan recently announced a few pop-up shows before she takes time off to “go away to write the next album.”
