Caity Baser breaks silence on being assaulted by family friend at eight

Music icon Caity Baser opened up about a deeply painful memory from her childhood during a recent appearance on Paul C. Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast.

The 23-year-old pop star from Southampton said that she experienced sexual assault when she was just eight years old.

In the emotional interview, Caity said it happened during a visit to her grandfather house.

She shared, “I was eight years old and I was out with my grandad and going back to his house and it was my grandad’s friend that did it to me.”

The singer added, “Who I knew, and spent a lot of time together, and he was really lovely to me. My grandad parked the car up and just went inside because he was like ‘hi Caity are you OK’ because that was normal.”

The artist then explained that the man pulled her in and made her feel extremely uncomfortable. “That happened, I came out, and obviously was like ‘that was wrong.’ I went to my grandad and burst into tears and said ‘take me home’.”

The Oh Well singer broke down during the conversation as she said that moment became the starting point of many of her personal challenges.

Caity also said that it changed her relationship with her grandfather. However, her new song The Weight Of You was inspired by that difficult experience.

Brunson said this was the first time Caity talked so openly about her past and the pain behind her music.

Furthermore, fans shared some kind words under the podcast clip as they all thanked Caity for her honesty and many said that her courage would somehow help others to feel less alone and more seen in this battle.
