Anne Hathaway teams with Adam Driver for Ron Howard’s darkest war story

Adam Driver and Anne Hathaway are set to headline Alone at Dawn, Ron Howard’s new war drama for Amazon MGM Studios.

The film tells the story of John Chapman, a U.S. Air Force Combat Controller who displayed incredible bravery during a mission in Afghanistan.

Driver will play Chapman, who continued fighting despite being injured and left behind, saving lives under impossible circumstances.

Whereas, Hathaway takes on the role of the intelligence officer who later campaigned to have Chapman awarded the Medal of Honour.

The film was adapted from the 2019 book Alone at Dawn by Dan Schilling and Lori Longfritz. Schilling, who served in combat himself, worked as a consultant to make sure the story stayed true to reality.

Writers Erin Cressida Wilson and Amy Herzog shaped the screenplay, bringing Chapman’s sacrifice and the fight for his recognition to the screen.

Produced by Imagine Entertainment along with Hideaway and Thruline, the movie added to Ron Howard’s long list of emotional real-life dramas.

Both stars kept busy outside the project as well. Hathaway was filming The Devil Wears Prada 2, while Driver prepared for Jim Jarmusch’s Father Mother Sister Brother.

For the unversed, Alone at Dawn promised to be more than a war film, as it was a story of courage, loss and determination, reminding audiences how one man’s sacrifice continued to echo long after his final mission.
