Celebrity stylist Eka Lakhani talks about the inspiration behind Vishal Jethwa’s first red carpet appearance.

Bollywood’s rising star Vishal Jethwa made his dramatic red carpet debut at the 78th Cannes Film Festival on May 20, 2025. Vishal Jethwa attended the Vie Privée (A Private Life) red carpet along with the cast and crew of Homebound, which is selected in the Un Certain Regard category.

Stepping on the iconic red carpet with actors Janhvi Kapoor, Ishaan Khatter and filmmaker Karan Johar and director Neeraj Ghaywan, Vishal Jethwa looked dapper in custom Kaushik Velendra. Styled by renowned costume designer and celebrity stylist Eka Lakhani, Vishal’s debut red carpet ensemble blended classic tailoring with avant-garde glam.

“For Vishal Jethwa’s Cannes red carpet look, I brought on board London-based designer Kaushik Velendra, whose work I’ve long admired for its powerful structure and detail. Vishal [Jethwa] wanted to bring a touch of zing with a hint of bling, and Kaushik’s ‘Power Armour’ shoulders felt like the perfect fit,” says Eka Lakhani, adding, “It is handcrafted in India with thousands of crystals embroidered on a 3D heat-reactive fabric and the outfit beautifully balances strength and purity.”

Vishal’s glamorous ensemble was further enhanced by gold accessories. “The golden bird brooches are called “Two Wings of the Same Sky” by Kavya Potluri and it’s custom made for Vishal. It ties the whole look together with meaning and elegance and he is carrying it really well,” adds Eka Lakhani.

Bold, futuristic, and unmistakably high fashion, Vishal’s red carpet appearance was highlighted with tinted sunglasses by Gast. Vishal owned the red carpet with his confidence and fresh energy, making this one of the favourite looks at Cannes 2025.

Homebound—a Neeraj Ghaywan directorial backed by Dharma Productions. The film stars Vishal alongside Ishaan Khatter and Janhvi Kapoor, and explores ambition, friendship, and the emotional weight of choices.
