Kate Middleton smashes bottle at naming ceremony of warship

Prince William and Kate Middleton on Thursday attended the official naming ceremony of the warship HMS Glasgow.

According to the British  media, Princess Catherine , who was appointed as the Sponsor of HMS Glasgow in June 2021, played a key role in the ceremony for the state-of-the-art Type 26 anti-submarine frigate.

Catherine was to smash a bottle of whisky against the ship’s hull during the ceremony.

The tradition of smashing a bottle of whisky against a ship’s hull during a naming ceremony in the UK, often called a ship christening.

According to reports, the ship is designed to provide protection to the UK’s nuclear deterrent and aircraft carriers, marking an important addition to the Royal Navy’s fleet.

The ceremony took place at BAE Systems’ shipyard in Scotstoun, Glasgow. 

Earlier, The Prince and Princess of Wales’ Instagram account shared a picture of Kate Middleton meeting “Royal Nay Ship’s company of HMS Glasgow at Windsor Castle.

It’s not known whether she traveled to Scotland alone as Prince William was already there as part of his royal duties.

In a clip shared by the royal family on Wednesday, Prince William was seen arriving alone in Edinburgh.

His wife was not by his side as he disembarked the plane carrying his  bag.

The statement was issued after his royal engagement at the Leith Community Centre.
