Five highways in the covered areas of the Punjab capital have been declared bhakri-free and beggars have been banned from entering these roads.

The metropolitan government has also issued a formal notification declaring five major highways of the provincial capital Lahore free of beggars. The commissioner and administrator of the metropolitan government have declared five major highways of Lahore as beggar free and announced that the metropolitan city of Lahore will remove all beggars from these roads and make them completely beggar free.

According to the notification, the beggar-free highways include Mall Road, Lower Mall Road, Jail Road, MM Alam Road, and Main Ferozepur Road.

The administration has been directed to make arrangements for the removal of beggars from five highways and said that permanent arrangements should be made to prevent any beggars from entering these highways.

Following these orders, practical steps were also taken to keep beggars away from the said highways. Teams have been deployed to stop the smuggling of professional beggars from these areas.

The administration conducted an operation in these areas and chased away the beggars and released those caught with a warning. In defense of the decision, the district administration said that Ferozepur Road, Jail Road, Gulbark Main Boulevard, and MM Alam Road were made signal free.
