Natalie Portman has her priorities set when it comes to living a private life as a celebrity.
In a recent chat with May December, the 43-year-old actress candidly opened up about moving to Paris from Los Angeles with her family in 2016 and revealed why she prefers overseas for living.
“I find the people here are actually incredibly friendly – you just have to know how to interact, so that we’re not the ones being rude. Now, when I go back to the U.S., I’m like, ‘Oh,’ I would go into a store and not say hello to everyone there? It’s weird,” she told the outlet.
Portman noted that the culture in Paris, France “extremely specific” in “both deep and surface ways.”
“All the kids that come to my house are, like, ‘Bonjour Madame,’ and give me the bise [cheek-to-cheek kiss]. And before they leave, they are, like, ‘Thank you for having me,’ and if I’m not nearby, they’ll come and find me to say it,” she gushed over French culture.
Adding how people in Paris treat her differently as compared to in America being a celebrity, Portman said, “They’re very good at privacy here. I feel like the biggest compliment is ‘elle est très discrète’ [‘she is very discreet’].”
It is pertinent to mention that Portman shares two kids with ex-husband Benjamin Millepied, 8-year-old Amalia and 13-year-old Aleph.
