Narasimha Jayanti 2025: History

According to Hindu mythology, Narasimha is the fourth avatar of Lord Vishnu. He took on the form of Narasimha – a half-man and half-lion. He came to protect his devotee, Prahlada, who was being troubled by his father, King Hiranyakashipu. The king had received a special boon which made him nearly impossible to kill. No god, demon, human or animal could harm him and he could not die during day, night, inside or outside.

To break this, Lord Vishnu appeared as Lord Narasimha and killed the king at dusk, the time between day and night, at the entrance of a doorway. This moment marked the victory of good over evil.
