Olivia Williams, known for portrayal as Camilla Parker Bowels in The Crown, shared devastating details about her ongoing health battle.
The British actress revealed that she will never be cancer-free.
In an interview with U.K.’s The Time, The Sixth Sense star explained that it took four years and 10 doctors to finally discover a cancerous tumour in her pancreas in 2018.
“If someone had f—ing well diagnosed me in the four years I’d been saying I was ill,” she told outlet.
Williams said that she had experienced prolonged fatigue, chronic diarrhoea and limb aches. However, the doctors initially misdiagnosed her, and told her she was “menopausal or had irritable bowel syndrome or [was] crazy.”
The 56 years old actress added, “I used that word advisedly because one doctor referred me for a psychiatric assessment, then one operation possibly could have cleared the whole thing and I could describe myself as cancer-free, which I cannot now ever be.”
Williams shared that it took “about 21” doctor visits before she was correctly diagnosed.
The Dune: Prophecy artist shared that despite the eventual removal of initial tumour, she still has to combat new metastases.
“They’ve found new metastases pretty well either just before Christmas or in the middle of a summer holiday,” she continued. “Then, for three years in a row, they started appearing too close to major blood vessels to zap. So there was a period when we were just sitting and watching them grow, which is a horrible feeling.”
Williams is currently supporting Pancreatic Cancer UK, the London Marathon’s charity of the year, in order to help raise funding so that new testing methods can transform diagnoses.
