QUETTA: The Counter-Terrorism Department (CTD) of Balochistan Police has foiled a major terror plot by a banned organisation in Pishin district, killing nine alleged terrorists during an operation.
A spokesman for the CTD said that acting on a tip-off about the presence of terrorists in the Khanai Baba area on the outskirts of Pishin town, the CTD, along with personnel from other law enforcement agencies, conducted a targeted operation. As security forces cordoned off the area, the suspects opened fire, prompting the CTD and other personnel to retaliate. A fierce gun battle ensued for two hours, resulting in the deaths of nine alleged terrorists on the spot. “The terrorists were using automatic weapons and threw hand grenades during the encounter,” the spokesman said, adding that a large cache of arms and ammunition, including hand grenades, was recovered from the hideout.
The bodies were shifted to the district hospital in Pishin. The spokesman claimed the group was involved in attacks on security forces and civilians and was planning further terror activities in Pishin and surrounding areas. Investigations are ongoing.
Balochistan Chief Minister Sarfraz Bugti expressed satisfaction over the successful operation. In a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter), he praised the CTD’s professionalism, determination, and timely response, calling the operation a significant step toward restoring peace and stability in the province.
He emphasised that state institutions are fully active against elements promoting terrorism and unrest, with public safety being the top priority. He noted that the recovery of heavy weapons and suicide vests from the terrorists’ possession highlighted their destructive plans, which were thwarted due to swift action.
The chief minister also assured continued government support and resources for law enforcement agencies to make Balochistan a hub of peace.
