Ever since, HBO has rolled out the final names of the star cast for the upcoming Harry Potter series, there has been a huge criticism over selection of actors.
For instance, John Lithgow, who is a two-time Oscar nominee has been taken on-board to play ‘Albus Dumbledore’. But fans are not happy with the selection at all.
They have been sharing their strong reactions on the internet.
To calm things down, the 79-year-old has come forward to respond to the hate that he has been receiving on social media. He has promised the audience that he will do his best.
While talking on BBC’s The One Show, John stated, “I will be following the great Michael Gambon. I’m not an Englishman, although I’ve played one on TV.”
“I remind everyone that I did play Winston Churchill on The Crown and did just fine.”
The Dexter star added that he knows that many people wanted an American to play the titular role. But Lithgow admitted that he may not be English, but he will give his best to convince viewers.
He added, “But yes, I mean, it’s an enormous thrill. But I know there were plenty of people appalled that an American should be hired to play the ultimate English wizard. But I will do my best.”
HBO Max backed TV series will also include Nick Frost as Rubeus Hagrid, Paapa Essiedu as Severus Snape, Paul Whitehouse as Argus Filch and Janet McTeer as Minerva McGonagall.
