Summer has begun, and even in the month of April, the temperature is steadily rising, leaving everyone struggling with sweat. In this scorching heat, people often suffer from various infections and issues, including prickly heat. They try various remedies such as powders or ice to get relief from this.
While some of these methods may provide temporary relief, they can also have side effects. Ayurveda mentions several natural remedies that can effectively treat prickly heat without adverse effects.
During the summer season, internal body heat combines with external heat and results in rashes on the skin, commonly known as prickly heat. Experts suggest that when the body accumulates excessive heat which is unable to escape through the skin, it can lead to health issues such as loose motions and discomfort. Therefore, to maintain internal cooling, one should consume foods and drinks that help reduce body heat.
Dr Harsh, B.A.M.S., M.D., from Ayas Ayurvedic Hospital, explains that if a person develops red rashes on the skin during summer, they should avoid using ice, as its inherent nature is heating. Although it may provide temporary relief, it can cause the skin to darken. As a doctor, he does not recommend using ice for prickly heat because latent heat within the ice can be harmful.
Instead, using ice may damage the skin further. To treat prickly heat safely, one can opt for commercially available powders or apply natural remedies like aloe vera gel. Extracting and applying fresh aloe vera gel can offer significant relief without any side effects, and it does not darken the skin.
