Google Lays Off Hundreds Of Workers In Android, Chrome, And Pixel Divisions
Google Layoffs 2025: Google is reportedly gearing up for another wave of layoffs, with advertising, sales, and marketing teams in India likely to be impacted. According to a report by Business Standard, the restructuring may involve the company’s offices in Hyderabad and Bengaluru, as part of a larger global workforce reduction.
Impact on Teams
Although Google has yet to confirm the exact number of job cuts, it is speculated that employees in advertising, sales, and marketing roles might be among those affected, as per BS report.
This follows Google’s recent decision to reduce its workforce in the Platforms and Devices division, which manages Android, Pixel smartphones, and the Chrome browser.
Google’s Restructuring Efforts
These layoffs are part of Google’s broader strategy to streamline operations and cut costs. Earlier this year, the company combined its Platforms and Devices teams, leading to voluntary exit programs and job cuts. A Google spokesperson stated that the focus is on becoming “more nimble and operating more effectively.”
As Google proceeds with its restructuring, employees in India may face uncertainty in the coming weeks.
In January 2023, Alphabet had announced plans to cut 12,000 jobs, or 6 per cent of its global workforce.
Over 23,500 tech employees have been laid off this year so far across 93 companies, according to Layoffs.fyi, a platform that tracks job cuts in the sector. The most recent reports of layoffs come from Google and Microsoft, both of which are reportedly planning another round of cuts. These layoffs are said to be part of the companies’ efforts to enhance workforce efficiency, driven by AI-led restructuring and performance-based terminations.
