Country music star Lee Conway has died at the age of 85 after battling a short illness.

The Wanted Man singer, who was widely known for being Australia’s version of Johnny Cash, tragically left his fans mourning at his home in Queensland, Australia in March 2025.

His death was announced by his friend, comedian Col Elliott, in a heart-breaking social media post that read, “Lee and I first met in the early ’70s, we entertained the inmates at Pentridge.”

Paying homage to his long time pal, Elliott offered his condolences to The House That Love Built singer’s family during their darkest period.

He further went on to add, “An incredible talent as a singer and songwriter … such a distinctive voice. We wrote together and spent much time recording and touring. RIP my friend. My thoughts are with you Shanina. Sending love. Col and Kaz.”

For the unversed, the Polish-born musician rose to fame in the 1970s’ after releasing the hits Wanted Man and All I Want To Do In Life.

Following his death, tributes have poured in from multiple parts of the world, with people remembering him for his distinctive vocals.
