Starting from May 1, which marks Maharashtra’s foundation day, property registrations can be done from anywhere in the state, says the state’s revenue minister Chandrasekhar Bawankule.

The initiative was first introduced as a pilot project in Mumbai and is now being expanded across the state.
Starting May 1, property buyers and sellers in Maharashtra will no longer need to visit sub-registrar offices to pay stamp duty or obtain e-stamp certificates. These services will be available online under the state’s ‘One State, One Registration’ initiative, streamlining the process and eliminating the need for physical visits for real estate registrations in the state.
Announcing the reform on Thursday, the state’s revenue minister Chandrasekhar Bawankule stated, “Starting from May 1, which marks Maharashtra’s foundation day, property registrations can be done from anywhere in the state. If a home is bought in Nagpur or Pune, its registration can be completed from Mumbai or any other city. This can be done with the help of Aadhaar and Income Tax documents.”
The initiative was first introduced as a pilot project in Mumbai and is now being expanded across the state. The minister clarified that physical presence will no longer be required for online property registrations.
To ensure a seamless transition, the revenue department is working with the National Informatics Centre (NIC) to upgrade the digital system across all 519 sub-registrar offices in Maharashtra. Additionally, a new Leave and License 2.0 system will be introduced, enabling users to pay stamp duty online without any hassle.
This initiative aligns with the state’s broader push toward e-governance and digitisation, reducing bureaucratic delays and making property transactions more efficient and transparent.
