New Delhi – An 18-year-old girl committed suicide a day before her wedding in Malappuram district of the Indian state of Kerala. The girl named Shaima Saniyur was in love with her 19-year-old neighbor Sajeer, but her family arranged her relationship with someone else. She was engaged just a week before the wedding, after which she suffered from severe mental depression.
Shaima lived in her maternal uncle’s house after the death of her father. She tried to convince her family several times that she wanted to marry Sajeer, but the family did not listen to her. As the wedding day approached, she became more and more distressed, and finally committed suicide by hanging herself from the roof of her maternal uncle’s house.
According to NDTV, Sajeer also cut his wrists after receiving the news of Shaima’s suicide. However, he was immediately taken to Manjari Medical College, where he is now said to be out of danger. The police have registered a case of unnatural death in the matter and started an investigation.
