Mumbai – A group of villagers who went hunting in Palghar district of the Indian state of Maharashtra came to a terrible end when one of the hunters was shot by his own companions. According to the police, the villagers mistook him for a wild boar and opened fire on his own companion, killing him on the spot, while the other person was seriously injured and later succumbed to his injuries during treatment.
According to Palghar Sub-Divisional Police Officer Abhijeet Dharshiokar, this group of villagers had entered the Borsheti forest of Manwar to hunt wild boars. During the hunt, some hunters got separated from the group and at the same time, one person mistook them for wild boars and fired at them, seriously injuring two people.
According to the police, one person died on the spot and the other was seriously injured due to the gunshot. In a state of fear and panic, the hunters hid the body in the bushes in the forest. When the police received information about the incident, an investigation was launched and six suspects involved in the incident were taken into custody.
According to NDTV, after a long search, the authorities recovered the badly mutilated body of the victim, which was sent for postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. It is reported that the second injured person also died during treatment and the villagers performed his last rites without informing the police. The police are investigating the matter further and the process of registering a case against the accused is underway.
