Russia rejected Trump's Ukraine ceasefire plan, what proposals did the president-elect make

Moscow - Russia has rejected the Ukraine ceasefire plan presented by the team of US President-elect Donald Trump. The plan proposed a ceasefire in exchange for Ukraine's postponing NATO membership. According to Russian official media, the Kremlin has declared the project unacceptable.

Al Jazeera TV reports that Trump promised to end the Ukraine war in one day during his presidential campaign. However, he refrained from revealing the details of his plan. According to The Wall Street Journal, Trump's plan proposes delaying Ukraine's NATO membership for 20 years and calls for declaring the current border line between Russia and Ukraine a "demilitarized zone.

The demilitarized zone will cover about 1,290 km, and will be monitored by European countries or the United Kingdom. The plan also states that Ukraine would have to cede some occupied territories to Russia, including Luhansk, Donetsk Kherson, and Zaporizhzhia.

Russian President Vladimir Putin has rejected a condition of Trump's plan to merely delay Ukraine's NATO membership. Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov also called the plan unacceptable and said that postponing NATO membership does not matter to Russia.

On the other hand, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskiy had previously said that any peace agreement would require the return of all occupied territories, including Crimea, to Ukraine. But in recent statements, Zelenskiy has proposed taking the currently controlled areas of Ukraine under NATO protection and has called for the return of the rest to be made possible diplomatically.
