Khalid Soomro murder case, all accused sentenced to life imprisonment and heavy fine

Sukkur - The Anti-Terrorism Court, while pronouncing the verdict in the murder case of JUI (F) leader Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro, sentenced all the accused to life imprisonment and heavy fine.

Anti-Terrorism Court Judge Abdul Rehman Qazi delivered a summary verdict in the murder of Khalid Mahmood Soomro. The court sentenced all the six accused to life imprisonment and a fine of Rs 1 million each if they were found guilty.

JUI leader Khalid Mahmood Soomro was shot dead in Sukkur on November 29, 2014.

The Anti-Terrorism Court held more than 450 hearings in the Dr. Khalid Mahmood Soomro murder case. A total of 17 witnesses appeared in the case and the Special Anti-Terrorism Court of Sukkur reserved the verdict on December 13. Strict security measures were taken in the special court established in the Central Jail Sukkur on the occasion of the verdict.

Six accused were named in the murder case. The accused include Hanif Bhutto, Sarang Totani, Mushtaq Mehar, Darya Khan Jamali, Lutf Jamali and Altaf Jamali. The accused have been imprisoned in the Central Jail since December 2014.

The accused were sentenced to life imprisonment for murder and terrorism and 7 and 7 years for possession of weapons.

Maulana Rashid Mahmood Soomro says that the death penalty should have been imposed if found guilty, he will approach the High Court against the verdict.
