Berlin - Archaeologists have discovered a 17th-century Japanese sword from the remains of a Berlin cellar destroyed during World War II.
The sword dates back to Japan's Edo period, a period when the country practiced a strict policy of isolation to prevent outside colonial and religious influence and closed its borders for nearly three centuries. This is being called a surprising discovery.
Berlin's state archaeologist and museum director Matthias Weimhoff said, "Who would have thought that at a time when Japan was separated and European tourists hardly came here, how did such an old sword reach Berlin?
This sword was discovered during excavations in 2022 at Molken Market
