Condemnation of the deaths in the rocket attack on the Golan occupied by Israel

Islamabad - United Nations Secretary-General Antonio Guterres has strongly condemned the incident in which 12 people, including children, were killed in a rocket attack in the Golan occupied by Israel.

According to the statement issued by the spokesperson of the Secretary-General, Stephane Dujarric, he has expressed his heartfelt sympathy to the families of the deceased and wished the injured a speedy recovery.

Israel has blamed the Lebanese armed group Hezbollah for the attack, while Hezbollah has denied the claim.

Most of the people killed in this attack on the Druze village in the Majdal Shams region of Golan were children and teenagers.

The Syrian Golan was occupied by Israel in 1967. In 1981, it unilaterally declared it as its territory, but this claim of Israel is not recognized internationally.

Appeal to stop tension

The Secretary-General says that the citizens, especially the children, should be protected from the ongoing horrific violence in the region.

All parties to the conflict should exercise maximum restraint and prevent further escalation of tensions.
Antonio Guterres has demanded an immediate end to attacks across the 'blue line' border between Israel and Lebanon. He urged the parties to fulfill their obligations under international law and immediately renew their commitment to fully implement Security Council Resolution 1701.

The resolution passed in 2006 resulted in a cease-fire between Israel and Hezbollah, the withdrawal of Israeli forces from southern Lebanon, and the establishment of a demilitarized zone between the two countries.

Increasing tension on the blue line

As a result of Hamas's attacks on Israel on October 7 and then Israel's retaliatory war in Gaza, the situation on the 'Blue Line' border between Israel and Lebanon is extremely tense.

As a result of rocket, drone, and missile attacks across the border, people are being killed and injured on both sides. The southern regions of Lebanon have been badly affected by these attacks, where hundreds of people have been killed in Israeli missile attacks. Thousands of people on both sides of the border have migrated to safer areas in the past months
