Lahore - Heavy rains and hailstorms have destroyed the wheat crop in Punjab, it has been revealed that the wheat crop worth billions of rupees has been damaged in various districts of the province.

According to the details, it has been revealed that the wheat crop has been seriously damaged due to the continuous rains and hailstorms in many districts of Punjab for the past several days.

The wheat crop is almost ready in most of the districts of the province, however, unexpected rains and hailstorms have severely damaged the wheat crop. 

According to the preliminary estimate of the officials of the Department of Agriculture, 5 to 6 percent of the wheat crop has been damaged due to recent heavy rains and hailstorms in different districts of the province, which is worth about 23 billion rupees.

According to a report, in many districts over the last two weeks. Rain and hailstorms have resulted in the uprooting of plants and nearly 50 percent of the standing crop has become dormant, while farmers estimate that the sitting crop is up to 70 percent.

According to the data, in the rains till March 30, 2023, out of the 1 crore 60 lakh 14 thousand acres of wheat, 8 lakh acres have been partially damaged and 30 thousand acres have been completely destroyed. Punjab Crop Reporting Service According to Director Dr. Abdul Qayyum, the most affected areas are Sheikhupura and Nankana Sahib districts where the crop loss is estimated to be around 40%, followed by Muzaffargarh 14.8%, Sahiwal 14%, Toba Tek Singh. 12.9% in Okara, 12.5% in Bhakkar, 10.5% in Pakpattan, and 10.2% in Pakpattan, while five districts saw losses below 10%, and other areas reported abnormal losses.

According to the assessment, 20% of the production has been partially destroyed in the affected areas where the average yield per acre is 31 to 24 maunds under normal conditions and thus the total loss is 236,000 tonnes worth per acre. Min 3 thousand 900 rupees is 23 billion rupees
