The caretaker government of Punjab said on Tuesday that Islamabad Police's efforts to arrest Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan from his residence Zaman Park in Lahore resulted in stone pelting and shelling of tear gas. Information Minister of the Caretaker Government Aamir Mir confirmed in a conversation with Independent Urdu Correspondent Fatima Ali that the help of Punjab Rangers has been sought in view of the law and order situation in Zaman Park.

According to Islamabad Police, a joint team of Lahore Police and Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Chairman Imran Khan is present outside Zaman Park, where they are trying to disperse PTI workers who have already arrived.

DIG Operations Islamabad Shehzad Bukhari said in a conversation with journalists outside Zaman Park on Tuesday afternoon that the police have brought a court warrant of arrest, and they will try to comply with the court order.

A joint team under the leadership of DIG Operations Islamabad Shehzad Bukhari arrived in Lahore to execute the arrest warrant of Imran Khan, where he is facing stiff resistance from Tehreek-e-Insaf workers.

Aamir Mir while talking to Independent Urdu said that Islamabad Police came, they asked for our assistance, on which Lahore Police cooperated with them.

According to initial reports, PTI workers pelted stones at the police following which the police resorted to lathi charges and water cannons. Some of the tear gas shells fired by the police also fell inside Imran Khan's residence. Clashes between police and PTI workers continue.

In a statement on Twitter on Tuesday evening, Islamabad Police said that five police officers, including DIG Operations Islamabad, were injured due to severe stone pelting by PTI activists.

On Monday, the District and Sessions Court Islamabad rejected Imran Khan's plea for exemption from attendance in the Tosha Khana case and reinstated his non-bailable arrest warrant.

In a video statement released on Twitter, Imran Khan said that the police are out to arrest him. Imran Khan said that he believes that if he is sent to jail, the nation will sleep, but the nation has to prove this wrong.

He gave a message that the nation should stand with all courage and perseverance and stand firm in the field of action for true freedom and the rule of law.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, while giving an interview with a news channel, said that Imran Khan tried his best to avoid arrest till now, for which he sometimes used illness and sometimes advanced age.

He further said that Imran Khan got relief on every occasion.

He said that Imran Khan is refusing the orders of all the courts.

Ready to find a way out through mutual consultation: Shah Mehmood Qureshi Senior PTI leader Shah Mehmood Qureshi said in a media talk outside Zaman Park that he has come to talk to the DIG operation.

He said that the situation should not be worsened. We want peace we don't want bloodshed. Addressing the police, he said, You show the warrant, we will read it, understand it, then talk to our chairman and lawyers. We are ready to find a way through mutual consultation.

He further said that the tear gas and lathi charge by the police is unjustified. Yesterday's rally and the announcement of the rally on Minar Pakistan have lost their senses. We postponed the rally twice.

He said that PTI has resorted to the courts. In response to a question, he said that Imran Khan is present in Zaman Park. According to Shah Mehmood Qureshi, if the DIG meets, we may arrest him for the sake of peace. We do not want the situation to deteriorate.

On the call of protest by the leadership of PTI, the party workers blocked the main highways in different areas of Pakistan's largest city, Karachi.

According to Amar Garu, a correspondent from Karachi, the main roads of the areas which were closed include Orangi Town, Four K Chowrangi, Five Star Chowrangi, Dawood Chowrangi, and Manipur.

Apart from this, protests are also going on in Qayyumabad, Star Gate, Shaheen Complex, Sohrab Goth, and Hassan Square.

According to Hazar Khan, a reporter from Quetta, PTI workers have blocked two places in the city, near the Bileli check post and the airport road, by burning tires. Peshawar correspondent Izharullah reported that PTI workers are protesting against the possible arrest of Imran Khan.

He said that when the activists tried to break the gate installed on Khyber and tried to advance towards sensitive places, tear gas shells were fired by the police. There are reports of the arrest of some PTI workers by the police, however, the police have not yet revealed how many people have been arrested.

The traffic police in Lahore said that due to PTI's protest, Jail Road Bridge, Mall Road Bridge, Kanal Road, Liberty Chowk, Babusabu Chowk, Sigiyan Bridge, Zafarali Mall, Sumanabad Ganda Nala, Davis Chowk, Governor House Chowk, China Chowk, Sunder. Das Chowk, Dharmapura Bridge, and Mayogarden Sultan Palli are closed to traffic.

According to the police, the traffic has been diverted to alternative routes while traffic police personnel have been deployed to guide the citizens

Government has nothing to do with Imran Khan's arrest: Information Minister

Federal Information Minister Maryam Aurangzeb has said in a statement that the government has nothing to do with the arrest of Imran Khan and neither has this arrest had anything to do with the election.

He said that the police are only following the court orders. He said that instead of cooperating with law enforcement agencies, Imran Khan is breaking the law, violating court orders, and using women and children as shields to avoid arrest.
