When Rishi Kapoor bought his first award for Rs 30,000

43 years after the movie ‘Bobby’, Rishi Kapoor revealed something in his autobiography which shocked the movie circles.

(Special post on the first anniversary of actor Rishi Kapoor who passed away on April 30 last year)

Director and actor Raj Kapoor had created ‘My Name is Joker’ with high hopes. Money flowed like water for the film. Along with the selection of the best cameramen, the actors were also given handsome compensation and Raj Kapoor invested all his money for this big-budget film.

After six long years with big aspirations, ‘My Name is Joker‘ when it was released in cinemas in 1970, the aspirations were turned upside down. The situation reached such a point that Raj Kapoor was overwhelmed with debts. Raj Kapoor, known as the showman of Bollywood, was in such a financial crisis that he was forced to sell his valuables.

It is possible that if there was another director or producer, he would have turned his back on filmmaking forever by touching his ears, but instead of making this failure a necklace, Raj Kapoor decided to fight hard. Apart from their traditional social and thematic stories, they explored what kind of film audiences need at the moment.

After much observation, he realized that his time as a hero was over. Under the new wind of the new age, if they use their old formula with new faces now, they can turn the tide. Raj Kapoor’s old formula was this, the dawn of sex and music such that the melodies began to resound in the streets.

Raj Kapoor thought that if this formula was successful, then so much money could be made through it, that if nothing else, at least my name was Joker’s debt. In other words, to fill one well, Raj Kapoor prepared to dig another

There was a lack of capital, so it was very difficult to grab money from here and start the film project on a small budget. In order to save more money and also to stay at home, he chose his middle son Rishi Kapoor as the hero who played Raj Kapoor’s childhood role in ‘My Name is Joker’ I had stepped.

Rishi Kapoor was barely 21 years old at the time, but there was a problem. He weighed a little too much and didn’t look like a playful young man. So the first step was that Rishi Kapoor worked hard to lose weight to look like a hero and succeeded.

Raj Kapoor did not want an old heroine to come with a brand new hero, and any famous heroine would charge the same amount anyway, so he auditioned several young girls to hunt two with one arrow, which After that the lottery went to Dimple Kapadia.

Bobby, based on the love story of Khawaja Ahmad Abbas, revolving around the love of rich and poor, caused a stir when it hit theaters in 1973. By the way, Raj Kapoor had been relying on Shankar Jakshan, a duo of musicians since 1949, but Lata Mangeshkar had to content herself with Lakshmi Kant Piare Lal voluntarily because of her becoming him.

The songs they arranged resounded on everyone’s lips. Who wouldn’t want to shake their head when they hear a song like “We are locked in a room I’m not a poet Lies cut the crow.

Even before the release of this film, which proved to be a breath of fresh air, Dimple Kapadia became Rajesh Khanna’s traveling companion, so Rishi Kapoor alone benefited the most from the success of this film.

Rishi Kapoor has achieved the status of the new superstar of Indian films through ‘Bobby’. There was talk of him everywhere, while Raj Kapoor, who was suffering from a financial crisis, came to the position due to Bobby’s window-breaking business that he had to pay all the previous bills.

Box office earnings aside, critics also liked the film, which can be gauged from the fact that there were 14 nominations for ‘Bobby’ at next year’s Filmfare Awards. In five of them, the film was successful.

When Rishi Kapoor and Dimple Kapadia won the Best Actor and Best Actress awards, they both felt as if their dreams had come true.

Rishi Kapoor made it easy for him to win the award by leaving behind Amitabh Bachchan in ‘Zanjeer’ Dharmendra in ‘Yadon Ki Barat’, Rajesh Khanna in ‘Dag’ and Sanjeev Kumar in ‘Koshish’. Everywhere there was just wow wow then Rishi Kapoor and then Rishi Kapoor started raining movies and for a long time, he was recognized as an idol hero of romantic movies. From Dimple to many new actresses started their careers with Rishi Kapoor.

About 43 years later, Rishi Kapoor made a revelation that not only tarnished his career but also pointed out that he was late, at least in the face of the truth. It so happened that when his book ‘Khulm Khala Uncensored’ based on his biography was released in 2017, Rishi Kapoor admitted that he won the Best Actor award for ‘Bobby’ at Rs 30,000 (today’s I bought it for nine lakh Indian rupees.

Rishi Kapoor said that he was young, even ignorant, who got fame in an instant, did not understand anything, someone advised him that he could get him the award for best actor in exchange for money, so he thought without thinking. Accepted the offer. According to him, he took this step considering the award as ‘luxury’

Rishi Kapoor admitted that he violated the rights of a rightful owner, which he is ashamed of but it is the mistake or theft of his life, which he showed moral courage by admitting.

In various TV interviews when Rishi Kapoor was asked if the award was a Filmfare Chanto Baba using extraordinary expediency refrained from revealing the award but according to film analysts, Rishi Kapoor won the only Filmfare Award for Best Actor for ‘Bobby’ while Rishi Kapoor also said that he is very ashamed of Amitabh Bachchan.

In this regard, it is argued that Amitabh Bachchan was a strong candidate for the award for ‘Zanjeer’. Rishi Kapoor’s repeated confession in the name of Amitabh Bachchan also indicates that this award was none other than Filmfare.

Interestingly, Rishi Kapoor also kept saying that the person to whom he had given Rs 30,000 was well aware that only Rishi Kapoor was going to get the award, so he took the opportunity to do so. A large sum of money was swindled from them for having ‘advance notice.

Rishi Kapoor also feared that the money might never reach the organizers. It is also a coincidence that the film for which Rishi Kapoor won the Filmfare Award for Best Actor for the first and last time was ‘Bobby’.

He later showed the essence of good acting in many films but unfortunately lost the award. However, he won the Critics Award for Best Actor for ‘Do Doni Char’ in 2011 and the Filmfare Award for Supporting Actor for ‘Kapoor & Sons’ in 2017
