Trump took to the field to save the Iranian wrestler from the death penalty
US President Donald Trump has stepped in to save an Iranian wrestler from the death penalty.
According to the Arab News Agency, 27-year-old wrestler Naveed Afkari
was arrested in Iran on charges of participating in anti-government
protests in 2018. Arab media reports that Iran flogged the wrestler for
participating in anti-government protests. The death penalty has also been announced.
US President Trump has come to the fore to save the young wrestler from
punishment. Trump tweeted in favor of the Iranian wrestler and asked the
Iranian government not to execute Naveed Afkari. Trump has said in his
tweet that The Iranian government is preparing to execute wrestling star
Naveed Afkari. The US president said the protesters were protesting against Iran’s worst economic situation and inflation.
I tell Iranian leaders that if they would spare the young man’s life and not
execute him, I would appreciate his decision,Trump said.
Arab media reports say there is a trend on social media to save Naveed
Afkari from the death penalty, but Iranian officials say wrestler Naveed
Afkari and his brother have been convicted of killing an Iranian security agent.
