Supreme Court shocks second marriages without first wifes permission
The Supreme Court has ruled in a case that a person who marries a second wife without the permission of the first wife has to pay the dowry of the first wife immediately.Announcing the appeal against the decision of immediate payment of Haq-e-Mahr the Supreme Court said that the first wife has to pay Haq-e-Mahr immediately on the second marriage without permission.This decision was pronounced by Justice Mazahir Ali Akbar on the appeal of
Jamil. The citizen had remarried without the permission of his first wife on which the Peshawar High Court had ordered him to pay the dowry of his first wife immediately. The Supreme Court has upheld the decision of the Peshawar High Court in a five-page decisionThe court ruled that the permission of the first wife or the arbitration council is required for a second marriage.
