Lahore – Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema contacted President Dr. Arif Alvi. According to media reports, Punjab Governor Omar Sarfraz Cheema has told the President that the Governor House has been taken over by thugs through Punjab Police and hundreds of police faculty have been shipped off the Governor’s House without authorization. However, the Constitution has been violated. No activity taking place in the Governor’s House today is permitted by the Governor.

In addition, the Governor of Punjab Omar Sarfraz Cheema rejected the resignation of Usman Bazdar on constitutional grounds. The Governor rejected the resignation and wrote a letter to the Speaker of the Punjab Assembly. K does not meet the requirements of subsection 8 of Article 130. Usman Bazdar not only submitted his resignation to the Governor but also the resignation of Sardar Usman Bazdar was sent to the Prime Minister which is constitutionally wrong.

The Governor Punjab has said that the resignation was typed and written to the Prime Minister and submitted to the said office. That the resignation of the Chief Minister is handwritten and the letter must address the Governor of Punjab. Unfortunately, the then Governor of Punjab Chaudhry Muhammad Sarwar did not take into account the implications of Article 130 (8) of the Constitution.

It may be recalled that the Lahore High Court had reserved judgment on the third petition filed against PML-N leader Hamza Shahbaz for not taking oath as Chief Minister of Punjab. In this regard, the Speaker National Assembly was directed to take oath from Hamza Shahbaz on Saturday at 11 am.
