China’s state-run broadcaster CCTV reported Tuesday morning, 18 hours after the crash, that the wreckage had been found at the crash site, but that none of the passengers on board had been found alive.
The Boeing 800-737 crashed near the city of Wuzhou in the southwestern province of Yunnan while flying from Kunming on the east coast to Guangzhou’s industrial hub.
The accident caused so much fire that it could be seen on NASA satellite images.
The Chinese news agency Shenhua quoted rescuers as saying the crash had caused a deep hole in the mountain.
The report says that drones and human operations will be used to search for the black box. Black box flight data and cockpit voice recorder are essential for crash investigation.

Chinese President Xi Jinping called for an “all-out” rescue operation, as well as an investigation into the crash and ensuing civil aviation safety. Official media reported that all 800-737 aircraft in the China Eastern fleet have been ordered to be grounded.
Aviation experts say grounding the entire fleet of aircraft is an unusual move unless there is evidence of a problem with the model.
Aviation consultant IBA said China has more Boeing 800-737s than any other country at about 1,200, and that if only one of the other Chinese airlines were grounded, Can have a significant impact on domestic travel.
