Karachi – Amended Local Government Act has been enacted in Sindh. Sindh Assembly has gazetted the Local Government Amendment Act. Has become effective.

Under the amended Local Government Act, District Councils in Karachi have been dissolved and new Towns will be created in Karachi after the dissolution of District Municipal Corporations. 

A metropolitan corporation in Sindh will have five municipal corporations, the population for zoning of metropolitan corporation will be five million, the population of wards for zoning will be five thousand, the population of the municipal committee will be 50 thousand to three lakhs.

The population of town councils in Karachi will be 7.5 million, the limit for municipal corporations will be 3.5 million. Under the amended Local Government Act, town councils will be formed in Hyderabad, Mirpur, especially Sukkur, Larkana, and Benazirabad. 

Under the new law, Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, Karachi Hospitals will be transferred from KMC to Sindh government, schools, hospitals, health centers, and dispensaries managed by DMCs and district councils will also be transferred to the provincial government.

By law, mayors and chairmen are elected by show of hands. You must be a council member to run for mayor or chairman. One percent seats have been allotted for eunuchs and special persons in Sindh local body councils. 

Under the local body law in force in Sindh, there will be at least one seat for eunuchs and special persons in each council. Property tax will be collected by town municipal councils. 

The vice-chairman of the union committee will be a member of the town municipal council, the property tax will be collected by the town municipal councils, the vice-chairman of the union committee will be a member of the town municipal council.
